In 2011 the Boscobel Library will begin participating in the Library of Congress' Veteran's History Project. We'll be using community volunteers and gather the stories and recollections of local veterans to be added to a national archive in Washington. Our history defines us as a nation, people and community. Personal recollections of historic times and events represent a "living" history that textbook accounts can't duplicate. Simple events, bits of history otherwise overlooked, vivid details, personal feelings all build a historical portrait for future generations to consult. We'll be adding more information here as our library's project moves along.
In the mean time we're assembling resources that our library and community can use to think about history. The Teaching History website is an interesting place to begin learning more about the importance of history, how it is written and taught and some of the things that we might consider when searching for or creating our own stories. We all participate in history!
