Heros, Open Mic Poetry, ReadBox, ArtBoxes and Big July Booksale

Busy summer, busy people, busy library! Here are some of the things you can enjoy over the next few weeks @ your Boscobel Library...

Thursday, June 18th Speak the Word! at TLC
We're throwing another poetry party for better or verse with our friends at Timber Lane Coffee, 934 Wisconsin Ave., Boscobel. This Thursday, June 18th from 6 - 8 pm we'll be hosting Speak the Word!, an evening of open mic poetry and  creative reading out loud for teens and adults. All readers, writers, poets, songwriters, lyric talkers and listeners welcome.  Bring your own original work (all creative writing welcome, not just poems), a friend's work, a favorite poem or borrow one of ours to share. Poetry books available on site. Fun, drama & inspiration for all. Stage fright removers available. Catch yourself thinking- aloud!
We'd like to make this a regular monthly event and expand it to include other creative arts like drawing, photography & music to name a few. In the style of the great 19th and 20th century Parisian salons that hosted lively gatherings of writers, artists and thinkers all together enjoying each other's ideas and talents and great food and drink, we'd also like to bring together the creative people in our community.  We'll  be bringing the library Artbox kit and sketchbooks this week too, so if you're feeling inspired or just curious, stop on by.  Have questions? We have answers at 608-375-5723
Summer Library Programs"Every Hero Has a Story", Summer Library Program is held every Wednesday morning 10-11 am, for children of all ages and runs though August 1st. Registration for SLP is still open; weekly attendance, while encouraged,  is not required to participate in the summer reading program and all families are welcome.. Age-specific weekly programs are available for children from birth through 6th grade. This week the kids will be making  their very own Super Hero costumes...up. up and away!
In addition to our "Every Hero" programming, there are several   DIY drop-in anytime programs for teens and adults: Try out our "Read Box" book selection, write a review and win a chance at Blaine Theater ticket; or investigate the stories of teenage heros who have made a difference in the work. If you like to doodle, want to relax or just feel creative, check out one of our "Art Boxs"  which will include art supplies and age leveled, growun-up "coloring" books, including Zentangles, "Art Therapy", "Art Garden Treasure Hunt" and more. Even if you're not comfortable drawing, these shared, highly detailed and gorgeously drawn books will let you color and create beautiful works of art. When the books are fully colored, several of them  will be put on display in the library at the end of the summer and will become part of our permanent collection so that people can check out and see the beautiful works created by their neighbors!  There's an amazing amount of creativity hidden in every community and household and we're excited to see who we can "draw out" in Boscobel to come color our books this summer!
Big July BooksaleMark your calendars, Big Annual Library Booksale  will open July 9th - 11th this summer. We are now looking for booksale volunteers to set up and tear down the sale and to volunteer during booksale hours. Sign-up sheet is now available at the library. Please call or stop by the library if you are interested, thank you! If you have items to donate, please call the library first before bringing materials. Our storage room is about to overflow, thank you!

Summer Library Fun Starts NOW!

With the last day of school today, summer's officially arrived at your library! We have many programs planned over the next eight weeks.  From our regular Wednesday morning programs for children  to Do-It-Yourself Drop In activities for 'tweens through adults, there's going to be something for everyone to do that will entertain, inform, inspire and encourage creativity, literacy and fun all summer long.

Here's what's coming soon:

This Saturday, June 6th, from 8 am to noon  we'll be visiting the Boscobel Farmers' Market for Super Hero Day! We'll be at the gazebo next to the train depot with some of the superhero gear that the kids will get to make during this year's Summer Library Program, "Every Hero Has a Story". Kids who come to visit us at the market can make their very own superhero facemask to wear.  Kids who complete and wear their mask will get a ticket for a free treat from participating market vendors. Come join us for a morning of Super fun activities at Boscobel's great new marketplace!

Beginning  next Wednesday morning June 10th, at 10 am our Summer Library Program 2015, "Every Hero has a Story" kicks off with a "WOOF"! Boscobel's very own canine hero,  "Bosco" and his partner Officer Travis Dregne will be visiting the library and talking about how Bosco does his job and what you can do to play safe this summer. Stop by to meet Bosco, pick up your summer program folder and learn about how your family can have fun while at the same time encouraging and maintaining important reading skills that will make it easier for kids to swing back to school in the fall.
Summer Library programs run though August 1st. Pre-registration for SLP is now open and families are encouraged to register early. Age-specific weekly programs are available for children from birth through 6th grade.

In addition to our "Every Hero" programming, we'll have a DIY drop-in anytime "Art Exploration Station"  which will include art supplies and age leveled coloring books, including Zentangles, "Art Therapy", "Art Garden Treasure Hunt" and more.

This idea is borrowed from the Brooklyn Public Library, which has a collection of more than 800 eye-popping citizen created art sketchbooks as part of their permanent collection. There's an amazing amount of creativity hidden in every community and household and we're excited to see who we can "draw out" in Boscobel to come color our books this summer!

We'll also have a Teen Heros reading collection and citywide walking tour guild available for you within the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned, it's going to be a great summer @ your library!

Mark your calendars, Big Annual Library Booksale  will open July 9th - 11th this summer. We are now looking for booksale volunteers to set up and tear down the sale and to volunteer during booksale hours. Please call or stop by the library if you are interested, thank you!
