Update: Library Children's Room Re-Opened, Annual Library Open House Dec 11th

Thanks to everyone who has been waiting patiently during our recent heating system construction project! The library's children's room is put back together, the heat is on and the room is again open every day during regular library hours. Parents please note: while work in the children's room is finished, other areas of the library do remain under construction; all children should be directly supervised near any unfinished work areas.

Families with pre-schoolers wishing to attend Wednesday morning story times: please visit the library next Wednesday, November 25th at 10 am for a special Thanksgiving Storytime, Thankful Pilgrims. In addition to storytime activities, we'll also be asking for feedback from parents concerning future storytime program scheduling.

All city of Boscobel offices and the  library will be closed Thanksgiving Day 11/26 and the day after Thanksgiving 11/27.

Change of Date! The next meeting of the Boscobel Library's adult bookclub, Frieda's Readers will take place Dec 1st at 7pm in the library reading room. We'll be discussing The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II by Denise Kiernan. Copies of the book can be ordered at the library for anyone who would like to join in the discussion. Everyone is welcome!

Mark your calendars: Annual Library Open House will take place Friday, Dec 11th from 10 to 5 pm during regular library hours. Curious to see the work that's been done in our building? We'll be giving tours. Also on display will be two 3-D printers made available though a LSTA Makerspace Grant. Hear all about the cool kits we'll be receiving as part of this grant, learn about what we've accomplished this year and what's planned for next and enjoy holiday snacks and other refreshments.

Coming Soon: We'll once again be setting up our SAD Light Station to bring a bit of sunshine to folks who are missing the long sunny days of summer. SAD (seasonal affective disorder) lights are frequently used in cafe setting in far northern countries to help people cope with the winter blues and to feel more energized.

For more information about these or other library programs, please call or stop by the library, 608-375-5723.

Library Open Regular Hours beginning Nov. 9th; Closed Veterans Day, 11/11

Construction continues at your library, but we are now open for all regular hours. Please keep in mind that some parts of the building will remain closed due to construction, which is scheduled to complete the first week in December.

Children's room floor vents
Beautiful new marble terrazo style laminate in place.
Bronze vent covers will provide a historic accent to match existing air returns.
Upcoming events include 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Registration on Monday, November 16th, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. All families with children age 1 year to pre-K  who wish to participate in the 1KB4K program are asked to attend this event, which will include parent-child reading, literacy games and other activities for children in the program age group. Several interactive literacy kits will also be available to try out and everyone will make their own "I Spy" literacy game to take home. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions about the program and to learn new strategies for engaging their children with books. This event and program are funded in part with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which administers LSTA.

Mark your calendars, the Library's Annual Open House Celebration will take place this year on Friday, Dec 11th from 10 am to 5 pm. Featuring library tours, scavenger hunts and trivia contests, book giveaways and refreshments, Open House is our way of saying thanks to our community for your support of our library. We'll be posting more details here as planning continues, stay tuned!
Air intake = better air quality and circulation in the library. Currently also one of the reasons
some rooms remain closed; yes, that is the basement you see through the holes!

Heating Construction News 11/3

What's that growing out of the library's chimney?! New fresh air return vents!

Construction on the new HVAC system is progressing and we thank everyone who stopped by in the last two days during our re-opening for their patience and interest in the work being done.We were very busy and happy to see everyone!! Both  library and city staff and construction crews have been working hard to move this very big project forward and we appreciate your understanding as we continue to work updating Boscobel's beautiful 1925 Carnegie library building.

Tomorrow, Wednesday,  Nov. 4th and Thursday the 5th, the library will again be closed. We'll re-open for all regular hours beginning Friday the 6th at 10 am. Please note that some areas of the library including the children's room and all of the downstairs will remain closed due to ongoing work & construction hazards. We apologize for this inconvenience but "safety comes first"  for our patrons and families.
We do have a large selection of kids' books on a special cart in the main library for children to choose from and as always are happy to help you find materials. Computers, Wireless Internet and printers are available also, as are all online  and regular library circulation services. Please call 608-375-5723 with any questions or concerns. Thank You!
