Summertime and the Reading is Easy!

At the library we know that summertime is reading outside time! Reading by the pool, on vacation, reading at the park....how about reading at the Boscobel Farmer's Market, or down along Sanders Creek? Your Boscobel library is happy to announce that soon you'll be able to find two brand new Little Free Library (LFL) book boxes in town, where anyone can "take a book, leave a book", just like that, no strings attached.

Little Free Libraries are sprouting up all over America (take a look at littlefreelibrary.org) because people who love to read want to share that gift with others and spread the word that for adults, teens and especially for young children, reading enriches lives, builds literacy and imagination and opens the door of opportunity for everyone. From cowpokes to doctors, farmhouses to skyscrapers, reading for fun, for learning and for entertainment makes life more interesting and the future brighter.

Our Boscobel Public Library sponsored LFLs will be located in Depot Park near the Gazebo and at the north trailhead of the Sanders' Creek walking trail, next to the bench at the Motorcyclists' Memorial. Plans are also underway for children's book "storywalks" that will lead to both LFLs, so that as children and their parents walk along the creek path to the LFL, they'll have the opportunity to read a story, posted like a series of signs, along the way. If these ideas fill you with enthusiasm and you're of a mind to volunteer, we'd love to have your help with these projects! Feel free to stop by for a chat, call 375-5723 or email us for additional information: libraryboscobel at gmail.com

All this plus these upcoming events and programs:
Two new  library-created walking tour guides, one celebrating historic building and locations in the city, the other sharing the local and natural history to be viewed along the Sanders Creek trail and the new Wisconsin River Trail Organization extension, both celebrating our fair city as Wisconsin's "Outdoor Recreation Destination".
Our annual Summer Library Program, with a recreation theme this year, "On Your Mark, Get Set Read" SLP programs are available for all ages, including grown-ups. Children's SLP program registration  begins mid-May!

Monthly adult book club, Frieda's Readers. Next meeting Tuesday, April 19th, 7:00 pm, we'll be discussing The Little Paris Bookshop, by Nina George, everyone welcome.

And finally, our Big July booksale, three days of bargains begins the weekend after the 4th of July, Thur 7/7 thru Sat morning 7/9, books, magazines, DVD's audiobooks, puzzles, overhead projectors and more.
Yes, we are currently taking booksale donations of  gently used items in saleable condition, but please, call first or stop in and talk to one of our librarians before bringing any donations, we're more than happy to help you determine what to bring. Unfortunately we are not able to make use of some items such as encyclopedia sets, outdated medical or technical guides, back issues older than one year of very common magazines like Time or any items that are dirty, mildewed, or partially destroyed.

We sincerely appreciate all donations and are grateful to our community for their support of this annual library fundraiser.  Booksale volunteers get reading rewards! If you'd like to volunteer to set up, run or tear down this years sale, please contact the library.
Remember, your Boscobel library card gives you access to all the libraries in SW Wisconsin, from Dickeyville to Viola, as well as loads of online entertainment, e books, movies and reference resources that are not available through regular Internet services. Enjoy our public WiFi access and computer workstations with printers and scanners so you can get  work done, connect with friends and family or just relax and surf the web or browse our shelves and magazines.  Not sure what you need? want to learn more?
