Prairie Enthusiasm @ Your Library, 11am, Saturday, July 23rd.
Mark your calendars, The Prairie Enthusiasts conservation group from Viroqua WI will be visiting us at the library to present "Prairie Enthusiasm", a program for people of all ages interested in learning more about the native wild prairies, savannahs and woodlands of the upper midwest and our Driftless region. Prairie restoration and conservation experts will be on hand to share their wildlands stories and knowledge, and we'll screen a short film, "Prairie Enthusiasm, Protecting Our Natural Heritage" about prairie lands and their restoration in SW Wisconsin, followed by a question and answer session. Afterward, everyone will be invited to join in a guided prairie hike, just outside of Boscobel. Visit www.thePrairieEnthusiasts.org for more information.
StoryWalking Around Boscobel
Many families have already enjoyed our library StoryWalk adventure at the Boscobel Farmers Market, along the path behind the historic Train Depot. If you haven't already seen or tried out this fun "book trail" with your little ones, you're missing out on reading and recreation fun!
For the rest of the summer, our library is pleased to announce that we've partnered with and received a StoryWalk grant from Healthy Roots of Crawford County, a UW Extension project. Healthy Roots is dedicated to providing healthy lifestyle education and outreach to children and families in Crawford County, and to creating a culture of wellness across our communities. Their generous grant enables us to create more new storywalks in Boscobel, and provides supplies, books and installation materials, as well as a brand new laminating machine for our library. We're delighted to have the support of Healthy Roots and to be able to make Boscobel a "Story-Walkable" community.
So what'exactly is a StoryWalk? Think of the bright pages from a children's picture book, set up like signposts page after page along a path or sidewalk. Anyone can walk along with a child and read the posted book together, enjoying the story, sunshine and physical activity all at the same time! The StoryWalk Project was originally created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Boscobel's StoryWalk stories will be changed out approximately every six weeks, so the fun can continue through autumn. Look for StoryWalk coloring sheets at the end of the walk, and for a Little Library of Free Books nearby. Our newest Little Free Library is located next to the Larson Shelter, at the flagpole, in Kronsage Park. LFL Number one is downtown in front of Boscobel's Historic Train Depot."Take a Book, Leave a Book", everyone's invited!
