Temperatures are falling, books are calling! As we reach the first day of winter this week and the joyous season that follows, all of us at the Boscobel Library would like to wish you and your families all the best that this season of peace has to offer. At the library, our Season's Readings' shelf is chock full of your favorite Christmas authors and stories, from Debbie Macomber to Charles Dickens. We have holiday movies too, to add to that festive feeling and keep the kids busy while you're wrapping presents! The library will be open this week during regular hours but will be closed Friday 12/23 thru Monday 12/26, as will the City of Boscobel.
The week after Christmas, on Thursday, December 29th from 6 to 7:30 pm, join us in the downstairs clubroom of the library for a surprise Family Movie Night! We'll have New Year's crafts to make and take home, popcorn and other tasty snacks to enjoy and fun for the whole family! All ages welcome.
As we prepare to ring in a New Year, there are many plans afoot at your library! We'll be kicking off a grant funded Digital Images project with the GAR Hall and other partners to preserve historically important local photographs taken before 1970. This grant is in conjunction with the state-wide ECHO (Exploring Cultural History Online) project. Watch this column and our webpage to learn more about this exciting opportunity to preserve and share Boscobel's history.
In 2017 we'll also begin the planning proposal phase to see a brand new elevator installed at the library, even as we continue working to raise much-needed funds for the project. A new elevator will enable adults and children living with mobility issues independent access to the lower level of our building and will open the downstairs area to provide more comfortable public spaces for programs and services. During this season of giving, please take a moment to lend your support to this important community project by making a donation to the Boscobel Library Elevator fund; every amount helps to bring us one step closer to our $30,000 goal. Watch the fund thermometer at the southwest corner of the library to see how we're doing, and help to spread the word. Our sincere gratitude to those who have already given, we're well on the way to $5000 this week thanks to each of you!
Spring Storytime, Frieda's Readers' Bookclub, political and public issues forums, movie nights, Helen Mears student art exhibit, Summer Library Program and our Big July Booksale are just a few of the things we have planned to share with you in 2017. On behalf of our Boscobel Public Library staff and Board of Trustees, we thank our priceless volunteers, friendly patrons and generous community for your amazing support throughout the year. To each and every one of you and your families may your holidays be merry and bright!
