The Boscobel Public Library now has a part-time, entry-level position at the library available. We are looking for a library circulation desk clerk to join our library team. 

Job Description: 
Boscobel Library Part-Time Circulation Desk Clerk 

Typical Responsibilities of Position:
Under immediate supervision, performs clerical and other library work as required.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or GED 
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a recent employment history and references that reflects this. Must have prior experience working directly with the public in a customer service related capacity.
  • Possess a high degree of computer and Internet literacy and current skills. Also be experienced in the use of email, search engines, social media, document creation software and familiar with tablets, smartphones & related apps and online platforms.
  • Be friendly, welcoming, service-oriented, patient, and enjoy helping people of all ages.
  • Be an enthusiastic team player, proactive & willing to pitch in when needed. Remain drama-free & stay on task in a busy, ever-changing work environment. Be accountable & reliable.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Be physically capable of and willing to do repetitive, manual work on a daily basis: standing up and /or walking for extended periods of time; be able to squat, bend or lift while carrying items and be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Be able to use staircases, step-stools and ladders whenever needed. Have vision sufficient to read printed or screen text and public documents such as tax forms and identification cards. Be able to clearly hear spoken conversation at average volume.
  • Be a reader.
 Duties/Examples of Work:
1. Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking materials in and out, verifying patron accounts, collecting fines, etc.
2. Checks in deliveries of interlibrary loan materials.
3. Does keyboarding and filing.
4. Processes, repairs, or reconditions library materials.
5. Shelves library materials and reads shelves.
7. Assists with library programs and displays.
8. Performs catalog searches and assists patrons with item requests
9. Assists patrons with use of Public Access Library Technology:
a. desktop computers and applications, printers, wireless internet and mechanical operations of library equipment such as copier and microfilm reader.
b. assists patrons with use of public library e-services and applications: online catalog, e-book and e-audio lending services (Overdrive), reference databases and handheld personal devices such as e-readers, tablet computers and smart phones
10. Answers directional questions and refers patrons to appropriate personnel.
11. Performs light housekeeping
12. Performs other related work as assigned by supervisors.
13. Represents the Mission and Core Values of the Boscobel Public Library.

Compensation: 15-20hrs /wk, hourly wage TBD based on skills, 6 mo. training, no benefit package to start. Background check and drug testing required. This can be a growth opportunity for the right person. Positive mental attitude, ability to follow instructions, reliability and willingness to work and learn on the job are essential. Boscobel Public Library and the City of Boscobel are Equal Opportunity Employers.
